when can a girl start using tampons?

Ask The Expert A Question

Dear Iris,

My twins are nearly nine, and they’re maturing rapidly: breasts are enlarging and body hair is becoming evident. I’ve talked with them about menstruation, and I want to have some products in the house in case they begin menstruating in the next six to 12 months or so. My question is: What is the best product to start them on? And when can a girl start using tampons?

Thanks,
Deb

Dear Deb,

I suggest you start them with Always Ultrathin Pads with wings. After a few cycles they may be ready for tampons, but this is an individual decision. They must be able to understand the proper use of tampons and be able to insert the tampon into their vaginas. Then I suggest you use Tampax Lites. See www.beinggirl.com for more info.

Good luck,

Iris
